Athens, Greece (#4 of 5)

Here we are at a photo that most Americans are most familiar with - Santorini! What a story behind the name that is actually on Greek maps - Thera! I know some of our kids have studied mythology so I hope they'll be as fascinated with the story as I am.

Further, another fascinating happening created the scene in the photo I've attached below. 3600 years ago a volcano erupted so violently that the center of the island collapsed and sent destructive tsunamis out to the surrounding islands, causing those settlements to be completely wiped out!

History is wild, scary and so beautiful. Thank you, Hara!
